Julia flies to Turkey for a week to attend a conference. When Sascha goes to the airport to pick her up he discovers that she was never on the returning flight. Instead, he is told that she died in a diving accident in the Mediterranean. Sascha, shocked, is soon plunged into the depths of despair.
Until he sees her again – on television! In Iraq, an unknown group has seized several Europeans and is holding them hostage. Sascha is convinced that the one woman among the hostages is Julia.
In Berlin, Sascha does everything possible to help his newfound love. This involves his researching her past, which – he slowly realizes – she had been concealing from him…
The German authorities refuse to help the increasingly desperate Sascha. But then there is a sudden development: the hostage-takes release a video that clearly shows each of their prisoners. Now Sascha is convinced that the government in Berlin will take action. But to his horror, the authorities insist that the identity of the woman in the video can’t be established. Sascha realizes he has to act alone. He sells all his possessions and flies to Iraq, determined to do everything in his power to rescue Julia…
